Today's match against Guilford was really great fun. In addition to some fun tennis they had massage therapy students on hand to give everyone massages! It was terrific. And all that was topped off by snacks and wine. The Guilford players are really nice and fun and their courts are a pleasure.
On Court 1 Pauline Grippo and I won in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5. In the second set we somehow got behind and were down 0-3 but we battled back and kept our concentration and were happy not to go to a tie-break. On court 2, Patty Bessey and Carol McBee lost the first set 4-6 but won the second set 6-1 and then the super tie break. On the third court our 2 Peggy's won in straigh sets 6-2, 6-3. So it was a good day for Mystic.
Currently we are in 3rd place - though we are tied with Pond View for Individual Wins which is what really matters most. But we have played one more match than Pond View at this time - as has Lyme Shores.

Sr. 3.5 USTA - Sunday Afternoon in Guilford
It was a festive day for Mystic 3.5 Senior Women. We traveled to Guilford - and more than one person shopped on the way there and back! We were in good spirits after another clean sweep - winning all 3 courts in straight sets. It was closer than the results sound. On court 1 Linda and Gail won the first set in a tie break. They were trailing in the second set and the rest of the team had finished their matches. So we were able to watch from the viewing area (which is very nice in Guilford). Guilford was ahead in the second set 4 to 2. The time was advancing and we were all watching with anticipation - not wanted to decipher the dreaded last 10 minute rules. We watched Linda win her serve .. she covers the court like a gazelle .. and has great anticipation. Meanwhile Gail was gaining confidence and beginning to poach those cross courts and put them away down the middle. Gail and Linda picked off game after game and won the second set 6-4 .. winning 4 games in a row. On court 2, Beth and Jane were happy to play together and marched to a 6-1, 6-1 victory. They were off the court first. On court 3, Peggy & Nancy won the first set easily at 6-1. The second set was not as easy and we missed the opportunity to close it out serving at 5-4. They took the lead to 6-5 and we were down 0-40 but Peggy kept her cool and came back to win that game and bring it to a tie break. We won the tie break easily .. moving out to a 4-1 lead and then finishing 7-3.
While it's a lot of fun to give the summary of our winning match it's not so exciting to describe our losses. So I'll just mention that our previous match at Lyme Shores was the opposite - we lost all 3 courts. We meet them again at our club in early January and hopefully that will have a better result.

Clean Sweep Victory over Guilford High Fives
Today our MIT USTA Senior 3.5 Women's team won over the Guilford High Fives. We took all three courts in straight sets. It was our first match and we have some players new to our team so it was great to enjoy a decisive victory.
Alice Butler and Carol McBee won on the first court, 6-4, 6-2. On the second court we watched Hillery Tura and Gail Bettencourt win 6-1, 6-4. Hillery closed out the match at 5-4, coming back from being down 15 - 40. Jane Shea and Peggy Schock played beautifully together, even though they'd never played together before. They won 6-1, 6-3.
We enjoyed a delightful social gathering with the very nice, fun Guilford players after the match.
We are looking forward to our next match on Sunday, Nov 11.
We are looking into times when the courts are available to have an occasional practice.
